Toys for Tots Finishes the Season Strong

The annual Toys for Tots drive is heading into the home stretch, finishing up applications, and making two last drives this week.

According to Orville Wempner and Chris Hansberry, the last day to apply as a family in need is Friday the 18th. “This year has been challenging,” Wempner said. Last year, they had close to 300 families in need. But this year, there are nearly 400 requests from individual families. These requests do not count each child individually, which means there are plenty of children looking for Christmas cheer.

“We’re surprised how many requests we’ve gotten. If we had set a goal, we would probably be way above, based on what we’ve received,” Wempner said.

The Toys for Tots team is looking for more gifts for teenaged boys and girls: gifts like makeup, curling irons, earbuds, or wrist watches were suggested by Hansberry and Wempner.

Luckily, there are still multiple opportunities to give to those kids in need.

On Friday, December 18th, from 4-6 pm and Saturday, December 19th, from 10 am to 6 pm, Toys for Tots will be at Twisted Branch running a toy drive.

Through the same weekend, Friday, December 18th through Sunday, December 20th, another toy drive will be held at Walmart.

For those around Maine Street, Toys for Tots has a promotion with V Titans Games and Comics. Community members can buy a toy directly from the comic shop for 10% off if they donate it straight to Toys for Tots.

This year is also the first year Toys for Tots is taking online donations. Donations can be monetary one time, once a month, or annually, or in a new twist of technology, physical toy donations can be purchased on the Toys for Tots website below and donated through the website.

We reached out to the writer/submitter and got this info back...hope it's helpful. PBM: Pharmacy Benefit Managers are pharmacies that are owned by insurance companies. (CVS is one.) They negotiate with drug makers to get reduced pricing for medications, but they historically have not passed along those savings to patients. https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/pharmacy-benefit-managers-staff-report.pdf MFN: Most Favored Nation pricing is a policy that means a country agrees to offer the same trade concessions (like tariffs or price reductions) to all member nations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). When applied to pharmaceuticals, it could disrupt global access, deter innovation, and obscure the deeper systemic issues in American health care. https://petrieflom.law.harvard.edu/2025/05/22/the-global-risks-of-americas-most-favored-nation-drug-pricing-policy/Comment publication date: 6/23/25, 7:47 AMComment source: L E T T E R TO THE EDITOR
