Captain’s Log #3…Stardate November 19th
Third print edition available

We’re getting ready for issue number three – easing into a routine, learning what works and what doesn’t, still having the best time ever, and we jump up and down (quite literally) every time we get a new subscriber in the mail. It’s still beyond frustrating working with the web designers trying to get the online subscription page working, please stick with us, we will figure this out and it will be amazing and worth the wait.

Once again, we are living on the neighborhood restaurants, and coffee shops. This paper is powered on the Artichoke Jalapeno Dip from The Grid and Getto Subs which has quickly become our Wednesday lunch tradition while we’re all in the shop together doing the layout. Wednesdays are actually dream-come-true days. Everyone is working away on their favorite part of this – writing, doing the layout, editing – shining in the expansion of their talents. It’s exactly what I always thought it would be; industrious, meaningful, comradery. It’s beautiful, and I love it.

Yesterday I learned there is actually a formal term for what we are doing here; slogging away each week making the paper better and better. One of my friends called it CPI – Continuous Process Improvement. Which turns out is pretty easy when you start out not knowing one thing about what you’re doing. The things we have learned. It feels like a Dr. Suess book in here every day; “Oh, The Places You’ll Go!”

“Out there things can happen, and frequently do,
To people as brainy and footsy as you.
And when things start to happen, don't worry, don't stew.
Just go right along, you'll start happening too!”

We have however, made a tough decision about printing next week. We’re going to hold off printing on the 27th and push out edition #4 to December 4th. We need to regroup and get the website fixed up. We actually have a long list of things that we need to tackle, not to mention the turkey and the family, so we hope you’re forgive us this pause when we get back to it on the 30th we should be all set up for the rest of the year. And then go into 2021 strong and ready for whatever comes our way.

We really do appreciate all the support. Please keep passing on the news and letting everyone know about us. Please let us know when you have ideas for stories or observations about things we could do better. This is our paper together and we want you to love it like we do.

Happy Thanksgiving – enjoy the holiday and count your blessings; we count you as some our best ones.

Keeping you posted,

Rach

C Comment author: Carl C. HagenComment text: What are MFNs and PBMs ?? ............................ From the editor: This is a very good question and we apologize for not catching that wasn't in there. We reached out to the writer/submitter and got this info back...hope it's helpful. PBM: Pharmacy Benefit Managers are pharmacies that are owned by insurance companies. (CVS is one.) They negotiate with drug makers to get reduced pricing for medications, but they historically have not passed along those savings to patients. https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/pharmacy-benefit-managers-staff-report.pdf MFN: Most Favored Nation pricing is a policy that means a country agrees to offer the same trade concessions (like tariffs or price reductions) to all member nations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). When applied to pharmaceuticals, it could disrupt global access, deter innovation, and obscure the deeper systemic issues in American health care. https://petrieflom.law.harvard.edu/2025/05/22/the-global-risks-of-americas-most-favored-nation-drug-pricing-policy/Comment publication date: 6/23/25, 7:47 AMComment source: L E T T E R TO THE EDITORComment author: Debra J RidenourComment text: So sorry for your loss.
