A bell rang for one Fallon teenager Friday, Aug. 21, and supporters from Fallon and other Northern Nevada communities answered with $79,000 to help children fight cancer.
More than 400 people attended LeAnne Wallace’s Ring the Bell Gala at the 3C Event Complex. Jessilyn Wallace, Wende Hook, and Alyssa Sowersby organized the celebration, which included sponsorships, raffles, and silent and live auctions. Donors from Fallon, Gardnerville, Minden, and other communities contributed money, merchandise, and services.
All proceeds were donated to the Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation. The organizers presented a ceremonial check to foundation representatives Tiffany Kress and Regan Bellinger on Aug. 27 at the 3C Event Complex.
Kress, the foundation’s community relations manager, said the gala was the highest-grossing community partner event in the organization’s 26-year history.
The foundation supported LeAnne and her family throughout her 2 1/2-year cancer journey, assisting with travel, meals, household expenses, and other needs associated with her treatment.
“They basically say, ‘Take care of your kid. We’ve got the rest,’” Jessilyn Wallace said.
The gala also led organizers to learn about a 15-year-old Oasis Academy student who was diagnosed with B-cell lymphoma this spring.
In a separate effort, organizers of the Fallon PRCA Rodeo held a raffle featuring a Blackstone grill, rodeo clothing, gift cards, and other items. The raffle raised $3,400 for the teenager and his family.
Sowersby said she would like to organize a giving tree or another fundraiser for the boy’s family.
