Community COVID Update
Students at CCHS are required to wear masks and social distance

Churchill County School District reported yesterday that a high school student who attends CCHS in-person has tested positive for COVID-19.

The district has taken all measures of action related to the safety and well-being of all students and staff in the building and will notify all parties who may have had a primary exposure (per the district and state guidelines) based on contact tracing throughout our system. The last day the student was present in the building was Thursday, October 1st.

Staff at the high school reported specific students being removed from classrooms yesterday who had come in contact with a student testing positive. Teachers expressed dismay that they were not made aware of the new positive case until after 4 o'clock p.m. when the district released their official statement.

The latest data for Churchill County as a whole, shows 27 active cases as of October 12th with no one currently hospitalized. There have been 8,822 COVID-19 tests administered, a total of 177 positives since March with 48 of those asymptomatic, 146 people have recovered from the virus, and four people have died.

County COVID test numbers through Oct. 12 are posted at: https://bit.ly/3dHXGIY

Free community testing this week is held at the fairgrounds on Tuesday, October 13th from 4-6 p.m., and Friday, October 16th (7:30-8:30 a.m.). Call (775)423-6695, option 2 to schedule.

The information released from the school district said, “We are committed to providing the most current and verified COVID-19 information available to us. The District continues to stay active in our cleaning and safety protocols, including requirements for physical distancing and the wearing of masks for staff and students. We ask families to continue to complete the daily screener and ensure their children understand the importance of maintaining distancing and face-covering usage. If experiencing issues with the Linq Rapid Health Screener, please complete the self-screener by clicking here.”
