Dowd Retires from the School District
Phyllys Dowd has retired from the school district as director of business services

After eight years of professionalism and dedication to the Churchill County School District, Phyllys Dowd, the Director of Business Services, retired from the school district on July 31st.

Phyllys was raised in the Mohave area and traveled various states before settling in Fallon in 2008. She and her husband, Kevin, came to Fallon with the Navy. They have always enjoyed the area and are looking forward to having more time for hiking and off-roading in their retirement. They had made plans for a trip to Panama, but with Covid-19, those plans will be on hold. Hopefully soon, the couple can start their traveling adventures.

An avid reader, Phyllys enjoys historical fiction the most. Scrapbooking is a hobby that she is eager to get back to, now that she has more time to enjoy. Volunteering more in the community is also on Phyllys’s list. She currently volunteers with Soroptimists and looks forward to being able to do more with the organization. There might also be an interest in some part-time work in accounting or bookkeeping in her future. “I don’t think I can go cold turkey into retirement,” Phyllys said.

She noted that over her eight years with the district, there have been some struggles and difficult decisions have had to be made, but she loved the district and the people who worked with her. “I could not have done my job as well without the outstanding staff in the business office.”

She also complimented the current board for their dedication to the students. “All of us working at the District Office, even though we are not in the classroom with students, we’re definitely dedicated to the students. This is a very unique time right now. I feel bad because I’m leaving right now just because of the unknown for the upcoming school year, but, Christi (the newly hired comptroller) is well prepared. She came from the White Pine School District, so she’s familiar with Nevada education.”

For anyone who has sat through a school board meeting, it is extremely easy to see the professionalism and dedication that Phyllys brought to her job and the value she gave to the district. She will be sorely missed and yet, also wished the absolute best in the paths ahead of her.

We reached out to the writer/submitter and got this info back...hope it's helpful. PBM: Pharmacy Benefit Managers are pharmacies that are owned by insurance companies. (CVS is one.) They negotiate with drug makers to get reduced pricing for medications, but they historically have not passed along those savings to patients. https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/pharmacy-benefit-managers-staff-report.pdf MFN: Most Favored Nation pricing is a policy that means a country agrees to offer the same trade concessions (like tariffs or price reductions) to all member nations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). When applied to pharmaceuticals, it could disrupt global access, deter innovation, and obscure the deeper systemic issues in American health care. https://petrieflom.law.harvard.edu/2025/05/22/the-global-risks-of-americas-most-favored-nation-drug-pricing-policy/Comment publication date: 6/23/25, 7:47 AMComment source: L E T T E R TO THE EDITOR
