NIAA Suspends High School Sports - Update from ChurchillCSD

NIAA Suspends High School Sports - Update from ChurchillCSD
Statement provided by the Churchill County School District -- After meeting with the state’s other superintendents, Churchill County School District will join with the other 16 districts in the state to continue evaluating and responding to the evolving nature of Coronavirus (COVID-19). We will also continue with a coalition of partners, including local health officials, Nevada Department of Education, Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA), and other agencies, on a cohesive response to protect the health and well-being of our students, staff, and families. It is important to remember that, at this time, most Nevada residents are at low risk of contracting coronavirus. For the moment, there are no planned school closures. However, we continue to engage with the Nevada Department of Education and to seek guidance on closure if necessary. At this time, individual school districts remain open and are committed to educating our children to provide a sense of stability for our students, employees, and families. All districts in the state, out of an abundance of caution and in an attempt to minimize the spread of COVID-19 and other infectious diseases, will use the following expectations: ● All school, district, and non-district sponsored athletics, extra-curricular activities, assemblies, practices, and events are suspended effective Monday, March 16, 2020, until further notice. Coaches and sponsors will make contact with current participants on Monday.
  • The Nevada Association of School Superintendents will work with NIAA officials for future guidance and support.
  • Activities and events scheduled later in the school year, including graduation ceremonies, will be evaluated as we progress through this situation.
● At this time, all district-sponsored staff travel will be suspended until further notice, unless deemed an emergency by the superintendent. ● At this time, the 21st Century Afterschool Program with support from Fallon Youth Club and the High School tutoring program will continue operating to support students and families. No other after school clubs/groups will be meeting, including Girls Who Code, and any other clubs. For information on non-district sponsored programs, please contact that organization. ● We have increased the cleaning of high touch surfaces, as a proactive approach to preventing the possible spread of COVID-19 and other infectious diseases. As always, we ask that you keep your children at home if they may be sick. We also ask employees who are sick to stay home. Should a COVID-19 case impact our district directly, we will update parents, staff, and the community regarding the next steps. Remember to check out www.churchillcsd.com for additional links and information. Thank you again for your support of our district, our schools, our students, and our teachers and staff.       Support local, independent news – contribute to The Fallon Post, your non-profit (501c3) online news source for all things Fallon. We reached out to the writer/submitter and got this info back...hope it's helpful. PBM: Pharmacy Benefit Managers are pharmacies that are owned by insurance companies. (CVS is one.) They negotiate with drug makers to get reduced pricing for medications, but they historically have not passed along those savings to patients. https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/pharmacy-benefit-managers-staff-report.pdf MFN: Most Favored Nation pricing is a policy that means a country agrees to offer the same trade concessions (like tariffs or price reductions) to all member nations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). When applied to pharmaceuticals, it could disrupt global access, deter innovation, and obscure the deeper systemic issues in American health care. https://petrieflom.law.harvard.edu/2025/05/22/the-global-risks-of-americas-most-favored-nation-drug-pricing-policy/Comment publication date: 6/23/25, 7:47 AMComment source: L E T T E R TO THE EDITOR
