Churchill County High School’s girls’ varsity softball team delivered an impressive performance on Saturday, sweeping a home doubleheader in Fallon. The Lady Greenwave dominated South Tahoe with decisive wins of 16-1 and 21-2.

In the first game, Lady Greenwave set the tone early by scoring five runs in the opening inning, fueled by key hits. Their offensive momentum continued in the second inning, highlighted by a nine-run outburst that put the game firmly in their control. The team added two more runs in the third inning, cementing their victory in the opener.

Complementing their strong offensive showing, Lady Greenwave played solid defense throughout the first game. The team committed no errors, demonstrating a well-rounded effort that contributed to their decisive win.

In the second game, the Lady Greenwave continued their offensive dominance with an explosive start, scoring 12 runs in the first inning. Their momentum carried into the bottom of the second, where they tallied nine additional runs on eight hits, showcasing their consistent power at the plate.

Defensively, Lady Greenwave played a flawless second game, handling every opportunity cleanly and finishing the contest without committing a single error.

With these two impressive victories, Fallon has built early momentum as league play gets underway. The Lady Greenwave’s dominant performances not only reinforce their strong start to the season but also strengthen their position as a serious contender for postseason action.

Looking ahead, Lady Greenwave will have the opportunity to continue its winning streak when they host the Truckee Wolverines at home on March 3.

Comment author: Patti Cole Comment text: Marie will be forever treasured in memories. The memories remain of a soft-spoken, seemingly unassuming but determined individual who absolutely knew what path she wanted to take in life, and followed it. Her instinctive reactions, which highlighted her steadfast level of love and caring for her family, friends and all living things found in nature, hold lessons for us all. An unexpected splash of her self-deprecating humor, coupled with uncanny timing, will always bring a smile. For me, Marie lives on in the sighting of a Black-crowned night heron in the tules, the bloom of a beautiful spring flower and, most poetically, in the struggle of wildlife photographers handling their very large camera lenses.
