On Tuesday, November 11, the Convention Center in Fallon was the site of a heartfelt gathering as New Millennium sponsored and the Fallon Chamber hosted a special Veterans Day Breakfast, drawing together veterans, their families, and community members in a show of gratitude for those who have served in the United States military.

The Fallon Chamber played an integral role in organizing the breakfast, with Chamber director Lucy Carnahan and her team of local volunteers assisting in coordinating the festivities. New Millennium is a renowned steel fabrication plant located just west of Fallon. They worked to ensure that local veterans felt honored and appreciated on this crucial day. This marks the second consecutive year that New Millennium has taken the lead in hosting this event, continuing its commitment to supporting the Fallon community and its veterans.

Kelly Robbins, General Manager of New Millennium, delivered the keynote address at breakfast.

A highlight of the morning was the presentation of the flag by local Boy Scout Troop 1776, an active group sponsored by the Fallon Rotary Club. The scouts led the assembled guests in the Pledge of Allegiance, setting a reverent tone for the proceedings. Throughout the event, members of Troop 1776 assisted with various tasks, from serving breakfast to helping set up and clean up, demonstrating their dedication to both their community and the values of scouting. The troop is known for its involvement in numerous local service projects and events, as well as their flag placement program, further strengthening the bonds between generations in Fallon.

Carnahan said that plans are underway to host the event again next year with New Millennium. She is hoping to continue this tradition in the years to come, ensuring that Fallon’s veterans always feel honored and celebrated for their service.

The memories remain of a soft-spoken, seemingly unassuming but determined individual who absolutely knew what path she wanted to take in life, and followed it. Her instinctive reactions, which highlighted her steadfast level of love and caring for her family, friends and all living things found in nature, hold lessons for us all. An unexpected splash of her self-deprecating humor, coupled with uncanny timing, will always bring a smile. For me, Marie lives on in the sighting of a Black-crowned night heron in the tules, the bloom of a beautiful spring flower and, most poetically, in the struggle of wildlife photographers handling their very large camera lenses.
