What a fun place to be, in our new building, starting a new project with people I admire and greatly respect, with family and friends there supporting us.
To everyone who came to our open house last week, a hearty thank you for making our day so special. And to Lucy and her Chamber team, thank you so much for all you did to make that such a fun party. We had a great turn out and it was so good to see everyone and spend time with so many of you who have helped get us this far.
It’s just a beautiful morning at the Boyer Bunny Ranch – a big, waning moon lighting the west side of the house, the pink, Fallon sunrise glow in the east, chickens chatting me up from the front porch, and Clio the big, black Great Dane crashed out next to me on the couch breathing peaceful, deep sighs.
“My joy is at its zenith and all is right with the world.” (Bonus points if you know where that came from.)
When I started this crazy journey into local news back in 2018, it appeared to me that you could use a local newspaper to build a stronger community. I didn’t really know exactly what I meant by that, and probably don’t fully grasp it yet, but what I’ve seen happen over the past almost seven years, is exactly that. The more people we touch and involve in this sausage-making process, the more people seem to feel involved and included and invested in what we’re doing but also what the entire community is doing. I feel like maybe we’ve all gotten to know each other better and, in a community known for taking care of its own and stepping up when the chips are down, coming together even more and even stronger.
It's been one of the great joys of my life to celebrate this community through the pages (both digital and print) of our paper. And now to do the same in Fernley and Lovelock as we expand this work into our neighboring communities.
The theory only works, though, if you all play along and participate and indeed you have and as always we are so grateful.
So while we press on in this important work, appreciating all that’s gotten us this far and ready to flourish as we continue to grow, we’ll always be right here…
…Keeping you Posted.
