June 13, 1946 – June 11, 2025
Jeanette Ann Strong passed away peacefully in her home on the morning of June 11, 2025, just two days before her 79th birthday. Born Jeanette Ann Meek on June 13, 1946 in San Mateo to Robert Parker and Winifred Lorraine Meek, she was brought home to the first of many houses that would shape a life deeply rooted in family, faith, and charity. Jeanette moved frequently during her childhood, calling 18 different places home before heading to Pasadena College, where she had twice lived before when her father began to pursue his education following his service in World War II, then finishing after returning from the Korean War.
A lifelong learner and dedicated educator, Jeanette earned her Bachelor of Arts in History from Pasadena College in 1967 and her Master of Arts in Librarianship from San Jose State College in 1972. On October 26, 1968, she married Gale Strong at San Bruno Church of the Nazarene, and four years later they welcomed their only child, son Nathan Strong.
Jeanette’s greatest joy was being a grandmother. Her grandsons were the light of her life, and she embraced that role with relentless pride and unwavering love. She wanted to be a positive influence on each person she encountered — and by all accounts, she was. That desire shaped a lifelong calling in education where serving as a high school educator, a college professor, a school librarian, and Sunday school teacher, in each role encouraging others to grow into their best selves.
A gifted researcher and writer, Jeanette also shared her insights over many years through regular columns in the Record-Courier and the Lahontan Valley News, approaching each piece with the same thoughtfulness and dedication she had given to her master’s thesis.
Jeanette was preceded in death by her father, her grandson, and his mother. She is survived by her devoted husband, Gale; her son and daughter-in-law, Nathan and Cynthia; and her grandson, Logan. She is also survived by her mother, two brothers, a sister, six nieces, and two nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 12 at 11:00 a.m. at Epworth United Methodist Church, 280 East Stillwater Avenue, Fallon, Nevada.
All are welcome to join the family in honoring and celebrating Jeanette’s life.
