CCHS Intern of the Week – Garrett Payne

CCHS Intern of the Week – Garrett Payne

This week’s Intern of the Week is Garrett Payne, a senior at Churchill County High School, who hails from a fourth-generation Nevada livestock-producing family. Raised in Fallon, Garrett has become an integral part of his family’s operations, working alongside his mother Rachel, father Jack, and sister Emily on their ranches and in the livestock business.

Garrett has aspirations of becoming a certified welder, a skill he plans to use to stay busy on the family ranches. He will take his CDL exam on June 2 at the Western Nevada College campus and will continue his education in the fall, attending a welding certification program in Missouri at the same school his mother attended.

“He does everything on the ranch including working cattle and helping at the sale yard,” his dad, Jack said. “Garrett knows cattle, and he is really good at sorting and classing cattle for the livestock auction and he does a great job working the ring, sorting cattle as they sell for the buyers.”

In his spare time (which is rare, as anyone who knows the Paynes can attest), Garrett enjoys snowboarding. He was also selected as an All-State Offensive Lineman of the Year during his time playing football at CCHS.

They strung them along for years until they had no financial choice but to accept and get out. My Dad even hauled water for the Snow ranch trying to stay afloat. May God bless you all. I truly pray it works out for you.Comment publication date: 3/28/26, 9:22 PMComment source: Local Rancher Says Navy Land Expansion is Devastating His Family RanchComment author: Lynn JohnsonComment text: I remember your mother well; she was a lovely and kind woman. I see glimpses of your face in the years worn onto my dad. It makes me feel more connected to you in some way. I remember the familiar kindness from you that I know in my dad. I would’ve really liked to have a good conversation. I only have a handful of memories with you, but you were loving, and you were kind. I wish I was able to say more. If I am someone to you, I hope I make you proud. Thank you Aunt for this sweet post.Comment publication date: 3/27/26, 12:11 AMComment source: Obituary -- Randolph Floris Banovich C Comment author: RBCComment text: The Navy should reimburse the market cost of replacing the grazing land they are taking.
