Movies & More - December 6 & 7, 2024

Movies & More - December 6 & 7, 2024

Here we are in the final month of 2024, and as has been tradition for many a year, the annual Maine Street Christmas Tree Lighting is scheduled for the first Friday in December. The Open House events begin at 4:30 p.m. at Fallon City Hall and the Douglass House. Join the festivities enjoying refreshments, cookie decorating, ice skating, tour City Hall and the Douglass House. Be sure to gather on Maine Street before 6:30 for the Christmas Tree Lighting.

Immediately following the tree lighting, we will have the Lahontan Valley Concert Choir on stage at the Fallon Theatre for a short round of beautiful carols, followed by our two movies for the weekend, which are sponsored generously by Sierra Financial - “Jack Frost” and “It’s a Wonderful Life.” What better way to follow up an unforgettable downtown Christmas event than with either of these enchanting classics?

Santa’s Wonderland in the City Hall Courtyard will kick off Saturday’s events on December 7, from 10 a.m. until noon, with cookie decorating, ornament crafting, letter writing to Santa, ice skating, horse-drawn carriage rides, and photos with Santa.

Playing on Friday and Saturday at the Fallon Theatre, we have the 1979 stop-motion animated adventure “Jack Frost,” rated TV-G. The Groundhog tells how Jack Frost became human and helped a knight win his lady love. This musical wintery tale has a runtime of 48 minutes.

Also playing on both nights, we have the heartwarming 1946 holiday family drama “It’s a Wonderful Life,” starring James Stewart and Donna Reed at 7 p.m. An angel is sent from heaven to help a desperately frustrated businessman by showing him what life would have been like if he had never existed. This film has a runtime of 2 hours and 10 minutes.

And while this weekend will be nothing short of fantastic, we’re also gearing up for our very special “Polar Express” Weekend on December 13 and 14. Bassham Furniture sponsors this free event, featuring three opportunities for a 4D experience with vibrations, scent, mist, confetti, and more. The complimentary hot cocoa bar will be available, and every child will receive a small gift. You can find more information on reserving seats on our website and through Facebook.

If you would like to book a Marquee Message or reserve an auditorium for a party, please leave us a message at 775-423-6210 or email us at [email protected].

Comment author: Patti Cole Comment text: Marie will be forever treasured in memories. The memories remain of a soft-spoken, seemingly unassuming but determined individual who absolutely knew what path she wanted to take in life, and followed it. Her instinctive reactions, which highlighted her steadfast level of love and caring for her family, friends and all living things found in nature, hold lessons for us all. An unexpected splash of her self-deprecating humor, coupled with uncanny timing, will always bring a smile. For me, Marie lives on in the sighting of a Black-crowned night heron in the tules, the bloom of a beautiful spring flower and, most poetically, in the struggle of wildlife photographers handling their very large camera lenses.
