Seniors at Churchill County High School spent a productive week exploring education and career pathways, including visits to Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC) and participating in local career fairs.

On Oct. 29, 26 seniors toured TMCC's Health and Technical Centers in Reno. Students were impressed with the advanced facilities and had the chance to meet Fallon native Rich Evans, who leads TMCC's HVAC and refrigeration program. All 26 students have been accepted into TMCC programs and are enrolled in the Nevada Promise Scholarship, which covers tuition for Nevada junior colleges.

"The students were amazed by what they saw," said the school's Work-Based Learning Coordinator, Dr. Sue Segura.

The week continued with a visit to Banner Churchill Community Hospital, where a few students registered for second-semester CNA classes with TMCC representatives. On Thursday, they attended NV Energy's Career Fair in Reno to explore careers in the trades and technical industries.

The week concluded with Churchill County High School hosting its own Career Fair featuring 41 booths from colleges and trade schools. Students appreciated the variety of resources available and the chance to meet with representatives directly on campus.

"This was an exciting and full week for both our Work-Based Learning Coordinator and our students," said HOSA instructor Mrs. Adams. "The on-campus Career Fair was a big success, and the students really enjoyed it."

According to Dr. Segura, activities like these provide students with insight into some of the opportunities available after high school, whether they choose higher education, trade school, or go directly into the workforce.

We reached out to the writer/submitter and got this info back...hope it's helpful. PBM: Pharmacy Benefit Managers are pharmacies that are owned by insurance companies. (CVS is one.) They negotiate with drug makers to get reduced pricing for medications, but they historically have not passed along those savings to patients. https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/pharmacy-benefit-managers-staff-report.pdf MFN: Most Favored Nation pricing is a policy that means a country agrees to offer the same trade concessions (like tariffs or price reductions) to all member nations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). When applied to pharmaceuticals, it could disrupt global access, deter innovation, and obscure the deeper systemic issues in American health care. https://petrieflom.law.harvard.edu/2025/05/22/the-global-risks-of-americas-most-favored-nation-drug-pricing-policy/Comment publication date: 6/23/25, 7:47 AMComment source: L E T T E R TO THE EDITOR
