In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Celebrity Chef Jonathan Zaragoza, renowned for his appearances on the Netflix show “Taco Chronicles” and who has made a cameo appearance in the hit series “The Bear,” visited the Churchill High School cafeteria on Oct 10. The special event featured a cooking demonstration highlighting the significance of cultural culinary traditions.
Arriving at the CCHS Culinary Arts Classroom, Chef Jonathan kicked off the event with a brief introduction. He shared insights into his culinary background and his collaboration with Chartwells' Global Eats Program. He also discussed the importance of student nutrition in schools and how his experiences have shaped his career.
The students watched as Chef Jonathan demonstrated his signature Corn and Pineapple Salsa recipe, guiding students through the process from start to finish. Afterward, the chef was asked questions about cooking, nutrition, and his journey in the culinary world.
Chef Jonathan and Chartwell’s Director of Dining Services, Amber Scholl, prepared and plated Torta de Jamon, Horchata Parfait, and Corn and Pineapple Salsa with Tortilla Chips for the students to sample.
Additionally, Students received swag and recipe cards while having the chance to take photos with Chef Jonathan.
Chef Jonathan engaged with the combined Spanish classes to discuss his career and the influence of his heritage on his cooking, followed by a final Q&A session.
The event was supported by Chartwell’s Administrative Assistant Jerusa Lacow, Director of Dining Services Amber Scholl, and Area Director Carl Nowicki, who will ensure everything runs smoothly, from setting up displays to distributing samples.
