Students Attend Back to School Night

On August 14, families and students of all grades filled the halls of both the main Oasis Academy building and the high school for Back to School Night. The energy from students, families, and staff was felt throughout the buildings.

Students met their new teachers and saw their new classrooms. Many families also brought school supplies with them. Community organizations also attended the event to help raise families' awareness of resources available around Fallon. The Fallon Police Department, Churchill County Coalition, New Frontier Treatment, Churchill Banner Hospital, NAS Fallon, Churchill County 4-H, and Oasis parent organization Friends of Oasis Academy all set up tables and helped greet families.

“We are so grateful for the community organizations that attended. We know that community partners helped play a vital role during Back to School Night this year by bringing awareness to resources and support that enhance parental engagement and student success,” said Rochelle Tisdale, Principal. “These organizations facilitate connections between families and the school. They encourage a collaborative environment that benefits the entire school community."

Buster Bighorn was also on hand to welcome families and take photos with the mascot. A photo with Buster is a traditional start to the year for many families.

Oasis Academy students began the school year on Monday, August 19.

The Youngest Bighorns Get to Practice Before the First Day

The first day of school can be intimidating for any student. Oasis Academy tried to ease the nerves of its youngest Bighorns by holding Kindergarten Practice Day on Thursday, August 15.

The day is an induction into what kindergarteners can expect for the rest of the year. Students dress in full Oasis uniforms, bring a backpack, and pack lunch. They are shown where to hang their backpacks and where their seats are, learn classroom expectations, and are given a tour of the school.

The tour includes learning where the restrooms, cafeteria, and nurse’s office are located. All while practicing walking quickly down the halls in a straight line.

Keeping with the Oasis tradition starting last year, the class was given Oasis Academy shirts identifying the students as the Bighorn Class of 2037. The shirts were worn on the first day of school and can be used as part of the student’s regular uniform attire.

“Kindergarten Practice Day is an exciting opportunity for students to familiarize themselves with their new learning environment,” said Principal Rochelle Tisdale. Pictured right, Rori Kuhn and Ember Baker.

The day's goal is not only to introduce daily habits for the students but also has social-emotional benefits. “During this day, students engage in fun activities, meet their teachers and classmates, and explore the classroom, but there is more than just that,” Tisdale said. “All these things help to ease any anxieties about starting school and foster a sense of belonging. We want to make sure they feel part of the Bighorn herd.”

Who and what they REALLY were. Because they were devotional and IMPORTANT to the humans they connected with. The content of their life bled so that others could feel their own life’s importance. Teachers of justifiable life and art. That all can absorb and use as the best fertilizer for THEIR lives. Giving the silent secrets and the loud guidance. The Melon Man was a perfect specimen for how to devote. His passing meant a life book of feeling/knowing what gives other humans their paths to Love and Knowledge. Some humans are meant to show others their paths. And in that they secrete ways to profitably exist.Comment publication date: 3/18/26, 4:50 PMComment source: In memorium -- The Melon Man
