Local "Harvest For All" effort supports Fallon Daily Bread

  Submitted courtesy of Sonya Johnson -- Churchill County Young Farmers and Ranchers, CCYF&R, have joined in a national effort by American Farm Bureau’s Young Farmers and Ranchers to provide food for those in need around our country and to raise the awareness of the task of feeding our citizens through a “Harvest for All” campaign. Over 50 million Americans are food insecure – that’s 1 in 6 – including nearly 17 million children, meaning they live at risk of hunger. Over eighty people attended CCYF&R’s first “Harvest for All” which was a fund raising event held June 8^th at the Fagundes Ranch. The dinner featured tri-tip, dancing along with a silent auction, They also accepted canned goods, which are to be donated along with all proceeds of over $2000 to a local food bank.  The recipient selected this year is “Fallon Daily Bread”. Young Farmer and Ranchers range in age from 18 to 35 and are given the opportunity to attend leadership and other beneficial seminars through the American Farm Bureau.  Most of the Churchill County members received a leg up by being members in FFA while in high school.  Agriculture contributes to approximately a third of Churchill County’s economy.
