Oasis Academy is excited to introduce Amanda Barbosa as the new K-8 principal. Barbosa has extensive charter school experience, both in the classroom and in administration.

Barbosa has seven years of teaching experience, including first and second grades and art and physical education. She has been the Principal of Ascent Academy in West Valley City, Utah for the last two years.

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, a Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction, and a Master of Science in Educational Leadership.

Among her many accomplishments at Ascent Academy are improving teacher retention by 15% and improving reading growth by 7%. She was nominated for the Utah Association of Public Charter Schools Circle of Excellence Awards as “Rookie of the Year” in 2023 and “Administrator of the Year” in 2024.

For many reasons, Oasis Academy was attractive for the next step in Barbosa’s career.

“I love charter schools, and Oasis Academy is a very well-established charter school,” Barbosa said. “One of the things that I love is that our students have the opportunity to graduate from high school with an associate’s degree.”

Barbosa was able to see Oasis and the Fallon community when she visited in May.

“I got to know the staff and how amazing and supportive they all are,” she said. “Coming from Utah, I am looking forward to being warmer in the winter as well.”

Barbosa wants to continue Oasis’s student-first mindset with her goals for the coming school year.

“My goals include improving growth in reading and math. I want to spend a lot of time in the classroom with students and teachers, and I’m looking forward to getting to know students, parents, staff, and the wonderful Fallon community members,” she said.

Barbosa was born and raised in Brazil and moved to Utah in 2010 to attend college. She has a well-trained corgi named Echo.

Her hobbies include kayaking, hiking, reading, crafting, spending time with family and friends, and traveling. Her international travel has included visiting Greece, Turkey, Brazil, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Argentina, Paraguay, and France.

Parents can meet Ms. Barbosa at Back to School Night on Wednesday, August 14, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

We reached out to the writer/submitter and got this info back...hope it's helpful. PBM: Pharmacy Benefit Managers are pharmacies that are owned by insurance companies. (CVS is one.) They negotiate with drug makers to get reduced pricing for medications, but they historically have not passed along those savings to patients. https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/pharmacy-benefit-managers-staff-report.pdf MFN: Most Favored Nation pricing is a policy that means a country agrees to offer the same trade concessions (like tariffs or price reductions) to all member nations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). When applied to pharmaceuticals, it could disrupt global access, deter innovation, and obscure the deeper systemic issues in American health care. https://petrieflom.law.harvard.edu/2025/05/22/the-global-risks-of-americas-most-favored-nation-drug-pricing-policy/Comment publication date: 6/23/25, 7:47 AMComment source: L E T T E R TO THE EDITOR
