You know what my favorite thing in the world is? I love it when I have pre-ordered a book from Amazon, usually months before its release, and then I completely forget about it. When it finally shows up, it is such a pleasant little surprise. There are so many great books coming out in the near(ish) future, so this week, I am going to tell you about a handful of books that I currently have on pre-order so that you can order them too and join me in counting days and stalking the mailbox! So here we go – five yet-to-be-released books that I am waiting for with breathless anticipation, in order of their release date:

“Just For the Summer” by Abby Jimenez (release date April 2) -  You may remember my review of “Part of Your World” a few months ago. Abby can always be counted on to deliver hot book boyfriends, hilarious awkward moments, and, of course, some hot and spicy scenes sprinkled in at just the right moments. I know that this little fake-dating/forced proximity number is sure to be a winner.

“Funny Story” by Emily Henry (April 23) - Emily Henry is my favorite. Her knack for writing witty characters and even wittier dialog keeps me turning pages every single time. “Funny Story” is another fake dating moment (what can I say? I have a type) but with a cute and creative ex-lovers twist. I cannot wait to get my hands on this one.

“The Paradise Problem” by Christina Lauren (May 14) - This best friend writing duo are the reigning queens of romance, and I admit that I don’t even care what the story is about if these besties wrote it. This one boasts a sham marriage, rich and snooty in-laws, and a huge future inheritance that is dependent on these two total opposites staying married. Sounds like a perfect summer pool read.

“The Guncle Abroad” by Steven Rowley (May 21) - This book is a sequel to 2021’s “The Guncle” and continues the story of “Gay Uncle Patrick” (GUP for short) and his precocious niece and nephew as they head to Italy for a big family wedding. The first book in the pair was both hilarious and sad, as all of Rowley’s books are. “The Guncle Abroad” is sure to follow suit, and I can’t wait to revisit this modern family this summer.

“By Any Other Name” by Jodi Picoult (August 20) - Jodi Picoult is an author who practically has a cult following. With over 30 books, most readers are familiar with her remarkably well-researched and detailed storytelling. This time Picoult is tackling Shakespeare with a dual timeline following two female playwrights, one in our modern times and one in Shakespearian times, neither of whom can openly claim their work. Sounds like a home-run to me.

Okay, there you go. Go pre-order some books. A future version of yourself will thank you when a great read surprises you in your mailbox this summer. Meanwhile, go grab something from any of these authors’ previous releases and visit me over on Instagram @allison.the.reader for more of my reading and rambling.

Comment author: Claude EzzellComment text: Paul was one of the most manifest men I have ever met. He was a good friends with my Dad and always had an entertaining story for the occasion. One of my most favorite stories Paul told dated back to the late 60s or early 70s and it revolved around him killing a deer way out in the mountains. Naturally the deer ran down into a deep canyon and died. Knowing that it would take him forever to haul it out he devised an awesome plan. After preparing the deer he drove back to NAS Fallon and rustled up a SAR crew and they flew out and picked up the deer. Of course it was labeled as a training flight but what the hell in those days you could do that sort of thing. Rest in Peace my friend until we meet again!!Comment publication date: 4/11/24, 1:15 PMComment source: Obituary - LCDR Paul N PflimlinComment author: THughesComment text: So sad to hear.
