Now, here is some exciting news. Some of you may remember when Fallon Lodge hosted the Elks Hoop Shoot contest in past years. For the last six or eight years, especially during the pandemic, there was very little response - until this year. On December 16, 2023, we had some 18 boys and girls between eight and 13 years old sign up. They competed in the eight to nine-year-olds for boys, 10-11-year-olds for boys, 12-13-year-olds for boys, and 12-13-year-olds for girls. No younger girls signed up.

The results at our Local Lodge level were: Deacon Johnson won the eight to nine-year-old boys contest; Luke Champneys won the 10-11-year-old boys contest; Weston Starr won the 12-13-year-olds boys contest; and Amillya Bishop won the 12-13-year-olds girls contest.

But wait, there’s more.

On Saturday, January 27, 2024, our Fallon winners were invited to go to the Central District Elks Hoop Shoot Contest in Austin, NV, to compete with winners of the Reno, Carson City, Sparks, Tonopah, Tahoe/Douglas, Elko, and Hawthorne Elks Lodge Contest winners.

Deacon Johnson won the Central District 8-9-year-olds boys contest; Amillya Bishop won the District’s 12-13-year-old girls contest; Luke Champneys finished 2nd in the District’s 10-11-year-old boys contest.

So here is the latest: Deacon & Amillya and their folks headed to Hawthorne, NV on February 10 for the Nevada State Elks Hoop Shoot Finals. They both have won and now are the Nevada State Elks Hoop Shoot Champions.

They will now go to Las Vegas on February 24 for the Elks Area 7 Finals to compete against the Area Winners from California/Hawaii, Utah, and Arizona. A win there means a trip to Chicago for the championship and your name in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, right along with some of the best players in the NBA.

We reached out to the writer/submitter and got this info back...hope it's helpful. PBM: Pharmacy Benefit Managers are pharmacies that are owned by insurance companies. (CVS is one.) They negotiate with drug makers to get reduced pricing for medications, but they historically have not passed along those savings to patients. https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/pharmacy-benefit-managers-staff-report.pdf MFN: Most Favored Nation pricing is a policy that means a country agrees to offer the same trade concessions (like tariffs or price reductions) to all member nations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). When applied to pharmaceuticals, it could disrupt global access, deter innovation, and obscure the deeper systemic issues in American health care. https://petrieflom.law.harvard.edu/2025/05/22/the-global-risks-of-americas-most-favored-nation-drug-pricing-policy/Comment publication date: 6/23/25, 7:47 AMComment source: L E T T E R TO THE EDITOR
