Our Summer Reading Program

Our Summer Reading Program
by Rachel Dahl --  I signed up for the summer reading program at the library this week. It's for grown-ups too -- not just kids who need something to do all summer. My plan is to make myself stop newspapering for at least an hour every day and spend time just enjoying the written word. All the famous authors who have written about writing say the two best things you can do to become a better writer is to write every day and to read every day. From Steven King, who wrote On Writing, to Ray Bradbury, whose instruction book Zen and the Art of Writing, they all say to read everything you can get your hands on - novels, memoirs, magazine articles, the back of the cereal box. Some of the great joys in life are finding new authors, appreciating an especially beautiful turn of phrase in a sentence, finding new vocabulary words and using them. Perhaps I need to get a life. No really, words are life and I'm going to pack in some more living. I think it would be so fun if we all did the summer reading program together, so stop what you're doing and run over to the library and get your kids signed up and then sign up yourself. The library is at 553 S. Maine Street. What we’ve done at The Post, is built a page on the newspaper site -- you're actually there now, or click here, where we can all post what we're reading. Talk about what each book means, what it reminds you of, whether it inspires you, and make recommendations to each other or warn each other off. Just send in a litte write up to [email protected] and we'll post it on the page. Make sure to send a picture of your book, you with your book, you in the library with your book and your kids, or whatever is going on with your "summer reading program." As Carol Lloyd will say the minute she meets you, "do you have a library card? are you signed up for summer reading?"   Never miss a meeting or community event – keep an eye on the community calendar at https://www.thefallonpost.org/events/ If you like what we’re doing, please support our effort to provide local, independent news and contribute to The Fallon Post, your online news source for all things Fallon.

His mother, father, Karen and Trent were neighbors of ours in Tonopah, Nevada. We moved to Fallon first and then the Kroll's later moved there also. Mother and Wanda were good friends. My brother Michael and Trent were playmates in Tonopah. Mother and my three little children visited the family at their ranch in Fallon. My condolences to Frank's family. May you be comforted to know that I care and I pray you will be comforted by your memories of Frank. Sincerely,Comment publication date: 4/30/26, 11:51 AMComment source: Frank Robert Kroll
