P.E.O. Chapter D, Fallon is so very pleased to announce Corel Escartin as its first-ever STAR Scholarship recipient. Corel was awarded a $2,500 STAR Project scholarship given each year by P.E.O. International. Her application and interview were impressive with the local scholarship committee, who voted unanimously to nominate her for the coveted STAR scholarship.

After her application was forwarded to the national office, STAR Chair Becky Shelling interviewed Corel. Out of 2,000 applicants, Corel was selected, first as an alternate and then as a recipient.

Corel was born and raised in Fallon and has impacted her community by having the heart of a volunteer. Corel’s parents, Lailani and Bernardino Escartin, are immigrants to America and have impressed upon Corel and her younger brother the need to give back. This remarkable young woman is involved in her church Christian Life Center, and volunteers in the outreach program there and in other areas. While a student at CCHS, she was a member of the CCHS volunteer club, where she helped put together hygiene kits and helped distribute them to the homeless. Corel also volunteered by helping with a school carnival to raise money for playground equipment at one of Fallon’s local elementary schools. She also enjoyed being a tutor at Lahontan Elementary School. One of Corel’s goals is to make sure everyone has a voice and is heard, and she is honing her language skills for that purpose.

On top of the previously mentioned attributes, Corel was and continues to be, a stellar student. She is attending the University of Nevada, Reno, majoring in Information Systems. Sincere congratulations go out to Corel and hope for a very successful future.

We reached out to the writer/submitter and got this info back...hope it's helpful. PBM: Pharmacy Benefit Managers are pharmacies that are owned by insurance companies. (CVS is one.) They negotiate with drug makers to get reduced pricing for medications, but they historically have not passed along those savings to patients. https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/pharmacy-benefit-managers-staff-report.pdf MFN: Most Favored Nation pricing is a policy that means a country agrees to offer the same trade concessions (like tariffs or price reductions) to all member nations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). When applied to pharmaceuticals, it could disrupt global access, deter innovation, and obscure the deeper systemic issues in American health care. https://petrieflom.law.harvard.edu/2025/05/22/the-global-risks-of-americas-most-favored-nation-drug-pricing-policy/Comment publication date: 6/23/25, 7:47 AMComment source: L E T T E R TO THE EDITOR
