Democrats Donate Constitutions

Democrats Donate Constitutions
Jeanette Strong, member of the Churchill County Democrats speaks to 7th grade students about the Constitution.

On September 19, members of the Churchill County Democratic Central Committee donated 240 pocket Constitutions to the 7th grade students at Churchill County Middle School, as they are studying the Constitution.

Teachers Gary Jamieson and Lynnaday Mort brought their 7th grade U.S. history classes to the school library, where the presentation of the Constitutions was given.

After the students were seated, CCDCC secretary Jeanette Strong began the presentation. She showed students a copy of the pocket Constitution, which also includes the text of the Declaration of Independence. She shared a brief history of the writing of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, emphasizing the failure of the Articles of Confederation which preceded the Constitution. She then gave students an opportunity to ask questions. The pocket Constitutions were given to the two 7th grade teachers so they could hand them out to all their students.

The Democrats have made this presentation an annual event since 2019 in order to encourage knowledge of and respect for the Constitution.
Other members of the CCDCC in attendance included Chair Scott Tudehope and member Kathy Reynolds. They thanked the CCMS staff for giving them this opportunity to serve our local students.
