The City of Fallon has taken action to purchase the property located at 1050 West Williams Avenue where the old KHWG radio station building is located for the price of $72,000. The property is owned by the Hilltop Foundation, a private organization in Pahrump, Nevada, started in 1998.

Deputy City Attorney Trent deBraga said during the Fallon City Council meeting last week that as part of the city’s redevelopment plans for the north Whitaker commercial block of Williams Avenue, it is necessary to acquire the property.

Mayor Ken Tedford said this is an important property for future development plans the city will eventually implement. “We have some long-term plans to extend Whitaker Lane to Auction Road north to try and open up some development in the Auction Road area. That’s kind of long-term, it isn’t going to happen tomorrow, but we need this property to get there,” he said. “We’ve been working on this for about a year and a half and it’s come to fruition, it’s an important piece and I appreciate everyone’s help in getting this done.”

Councilman Paul Harmon said he just recently learned of the intention of opening up that area and appreciates the forethought to work toward this project.

The property is just .05 acres of land with the old radio station building, with a taxable value in the amount of $69,563. The purchase should take roughly 60 days to clear escrow.

One of my most favorite stories Paul told dated back to the late 60s or early 70s and it revolved around him killing a deer way out in the mountains. Naturally the deer ran down into a deep canyon and died. Knowing that it would take him forever to haul it out he devised an awesome plan. After preparing the deer he drove back to NAS Fallon and rustled up a SAR crew and they flew out and picked up the deer. Of course it was labeled as a training flight but what the hell in those days you could do that sort of thing. Rest in Peace my friend until we meet again!!Comment publication date: 4/11/24, 1:15 PMComment source: Obituary - LCDR Paul N PflimlinComment author: THughesComment text: So sad to hear.
