Dear Editor -
Now that it’s been nearly a month since the November General Election, I’ve had time to reflect upon the Churchill County School Board race and my campaign to join the board. I am so very honored to have received the vote of 3306 people in this county. That means that 3306 of you entrusted your children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews to my care. You trusted me to help with the issues that face the school district. It’s very humbling to have so many people stop me in businesses around town and thank me for running and say: “I voted for you.”
Having only been here in Fallon now 15 months, I am grateful that so many chose to vote for me. I just want to say: “Thank You.” I am thrilled to be a part of this community. I will be at the occasional board meeting as I believe a message was sent by the voters to the current and future board members: we want change. I will hold their feet to the fire. I hope that more citizens will do this as well. The election was very clear. The school district has some serious problems that need to be addressed. The board is the path to change. The board represents “we the people.” It’s time the board steps up and takes charge of the district. That may mean change at the top of the administration. I heard from you. I am still hearing from you. Now please make your voice heard this next year at the board meetings.
After having served just short of 4 terms in the Oregon Legislature and now having run for school board here in Fallon, I can honestly say my “political days” are over. Now I just look forward to being a part of this great community by doing what I can to support small businesses, volunteering where needed, lending a hand to help others. I chose this community, to live out my life, for a reason. It’s the people. Fallon, you are kind, generous and good-hearted. I never cease to be amazed at how quickly this community comes together. Whether “Old Fallon” or “I just moved here” people jump in and get involved.
This Friday night is the annual Christmas tree lighting. In my mind, THE most important event in Fallon for the year. It’s frankly a Hallmark movie. This, coming from a guy who detests Hallmark movies. I am so very grateful to the City of Fallon, the Chamber and all involved in making this event happen. I can’t wait for Friday night. I hope to see as many of you as possible and hope you’ll say “hi” to me and to all who attend. Let’s make this the best event ever.
