Sheriff Investigates Embezzlement by Former School District Employee

The Churchill County School District released a statement on Thursday, saying local law enforcement officers have informed school district officials of an active investigation involving a former school district employee for embezzlement from a former employer.

The Churchill County Sheriff’s office is investigating, and officers have requested access to the records and files of the suspect while employed at the district.

School District administrators are fully supporting law enforcement efforts. Although the investigation does not include allegations of embezzlement from the school district, the superintendent will take all steps necessary to verify that no school funds were at risk or school properties misused, as well as make sure all financial and business protocols are being practiced to prevent misuse of funds.

The district engages independent auditors every year to conduct thorough, annual audits to guard against embezzlement. The district will continue practices that ensure the safe and secure handling of funds and property.
