September at the Library

September at the Library
Reading with Rover at the Library on September 8.

Author: Anne McMillin, Churchill County PIO

There are lots to do in September at your Churchill County Library.

For the younger set, the read “1,000 Books Before Kindergarten” program encourages youngsters to read age-appropriate books before entering school. Book titles are suggested and offered by the library staff. Sign-ups are accepted at any time. There’s also in-person “Storytime with Ms. Jes” on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 11 a.m. Children’s Librarian Jeslyn MacDiarmid reads picture books to children and offers a craft to accompany most stories. Each session is recorded and posted to the library’s YouTube account for on-demand viewing at your convenience. For a fun way to read, there’s “Reading with Rover” on September 8 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Children read books to dogs to improve their reading skills and confidence to a decidedly captive audience.

If you’re ready to learn about 3D printing, drop in at participatory workshops on September 14 and 28 from 3 to 5 p.m. Using the library’s 3D printer, make objects, both useful and pretty while learning about this popular technology.

Virtual Reality drop-in sessions are happening on Tuesdays from 3:15 to 5 p.m. Everyone is welcome to stop and enjoy the experience.

The knitting club meets on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. and Thursdays at 4 p.m. Anyone from novice to expert knitters is welcome to learn and share their knowledge and experience.

STEAM sessions with VR are available on Fridays from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

Technical Services Librarian Joe Salsman, an expert in all kinds of technology is available to answer your computer and cell phone questions at the William N. Pennington Life Center on Fridays (except Aug. 26) from 10 to 11 a.m. Joe’s a great technical problem solver. Don’t sit and complain about your electronics, talk to Joe, and get the bits and bytes under control.

The writer’s group meets Tuesdays at 5 p.m. Come discover what area writers are inspired by and working on. Don’t forget to bring your manuscript for inspiration.

Make an appointment to check out the Hidden Cave Virtual Reality experience by making an appointment to don the headset and see Churchill County’s Hidden Cave from a whole new perspective. It’s a great way to see the cave without the hike and the guano aroma.

September featured artist is Dennis Doyle. You may have seen his work in the halls of the county administration building at 155 N. Taylor Street. Come check out his latest and greatest images. The library will be hosting a reception for Dennis on September 13 from 5-6 p.m. Everyone is welcome to stop by.

Library hours of operation are Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed on Sundays and major holidays.

Call (775)423-7581 for more information on any of the activities above. The Churchill County Library is located at 553 South Maine Street in Fallon. The library website is: www.churchillcountylibrary.org

We reached out to the writer/submitter and got this info back...hope it's helpful. PBM: Pharmacy Benefit Managers are pharmacies that are owned by insurance companies. (CVS is one.) They negotiate with drug makers to get reduced pricing for medications, but they historically have not passed along those savings to patients. https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/pharmacy-benefit-managers-staff-report.pdf MFN: Most Favored Nation pricing is a policy that means a country agrees to offer the same trade concessions (like tariffs or price reductions) to all member nations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). When applied to pharmaceuticals, it could disrupt global access, deter innovation, and obscure the deeper systemic issues in American health care. https://petrieflom.law.harvard.edu/2025/05/22/the-global-risks-of-americas-most-favored-nation-drug-pricing-policy/Comment publication date: 6/23/25, 7:47 AMComment source: L E T T E R TO THE EDITOR
