9/11 National Day of Service

9/11 National Day of Service

The September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance Day or 9/11 Day became a federally recognized National Day of Service in 2009. September 11 has been set aside since 2001 as a day of remembrance of the many lives that were lost in New York City. The 9/11 Day of Service asks all of us, across the nation, to do some small charitable service, transforming a day of heartbreak into a day of experiencing the heartfelt joy of helping others.

Visit www.911day.org to see how a difference is being made all over the country. See how you can join other Americans coming together to help Americans.

In conjunction with the national service opportunities, service projects are being organized locally. Many of our community projects are focused on Saturday, September 10. The week leading up to the anniversary is also a great time for anyone or any group to be of service to others.

Not sure where to start? Check out www.justserve.org, and enter our zip code in the search window. There are several dozen projects posted by individuals and organizations who need assistance. Projects that can be accomplished by one person or groups of various sizes. You can also scroll through JustServeFallon on Facebook for ideas and opportunities.

Your service to others is a wonderful thing, celebrate it. We encourage you to take photos to share on our Facebook page or at the www.justserve.org/stories Fallon location.

Discover how it feels to be of service, to help others in need during this special time and throughout the year.

Comment author: Claude EzzellComment text: Paul was one of the most manifest men I have ever met. He was a good friends with my Dad and always had an entertaining story for the occasion. One of my most favorite stories Paul told dated back to the late 60s or early 70s and it revolved around him killing a deer way out in the mountains. Naturally the deer ran down into a deep canyon and died. Knowing that it would take him forever to haul it out he devised an awesome plan. After preparing the deer he drove back to NAS Fallon and rustled up a SAR crew and they flew out and picked up the deer. Of course it was labeled as a training flight but what the hell in those days you could do that sort of thing. Rest in Peace my friend until we meet again!!Comment publication date: 4/11/24, 1:15 PMComment source: Obituary - LCDR Paul N PflimlinComment author: THughesComment text: So sad to hear.
