Banner Churchill Community Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship 2022 Awards

Banner Churchill Community Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship 2022 Awards

Fourteen scholarships were awarded to local high school and college students enrolled in medical field-related programs this year by the BCCH Auxiliary. Four college students each received $2,000 awards. Three high school seniors were the recipient of the Mae Haden Scholarships totaling $2,000. An additional 7 other students received scholarships amounting to $5,000 for a total of $15,000.

The Auxiliary funds their scholarship program through the proceeds of the Stuf n’ Such Thrift Shop located at 99 S. Nevada Street and the Rainbow Treasures Gift Shop in the hospital lobby. They also promote various other fundraising activities throughout the year, including “Rounding Up” your purchases when you shop and generous financial donations from the community.

The Auxiliary is a volunteer, non-profit organization founded in 1957, which depends on community support and the dedication and service of its volunteers. Our volunteers work in the hospital to assist patients, visitors, and staff. They also work in the Gift Shop and various positions at the Thrift Store.

The Thrift Store accepts donations of useful household and other items for processing and sale, a major source of our funds.

The Auxiliary is always looking for more volunteers. If you are age 18 or over (and we have many who are way over) and would like to become a member of this community service-oriented organization, please consider applying for membership. Applications are available at both of our shop locations.

Our scholarship committee offers a grateful thank you to the Auxiliary members, our customers, and supporters for making these scholarship awards possible. We hope to continue helping local college and college-bound medical students in the coming years.

We reached out to the writer/submitter and got this info back...hope it's helpful. PBM: Pharmacy Benefit Managers are pharmacies that are owned by insurance companies. (CVS is one.) They negotiate with drug makers to get reduced pricing for medications, but they historically have not passed along those savings to patients. https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/pharmacy-benefit-managers-staff-report.pdf MFN: Most Favored Nation pricing is a policy that means a country agrees to offer the same trade concessions (like tariffs or price reductions) to all member nations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). When applied to pharmaceuticals, it could disrupt global access, deter innovation, and obscure the deeper systemic issues in American health care. https://petrieflom.law.harvard.edu/2025/05/22/the-global-risks-of-americas-most-favored-nation-drug-pricing-policy/Comment publication date: 6/23/25, 7:47 AMComment source: L E T T E R TO THE EDITOR
