Book Review -- Animal, Vegetable, Junk

Animal, Vegetable, Junk: A History of Food, from Sustainable to Suicidal by Mark Bittman
Book Review -- Animal, Vegetable, Junk

Mark Bittman presents the history of mankind through food – how food is linked to colonialism, slavery, western expansion through Manifest Destiny, genocide, and famine.

Included is a look at what we eat, how food is grown, and the prevalence of junk food in the modern diet. And finally how systemic food reform through an agroecological perspective would help to improve how food is grown, what is eaten, and also create a healthier planet.

Readable and riveting with much food for thought.

Carol is the Director of the Churchill County Library which is currently open 9 am-5 pm Monday – Friday.

His mother, father, Karen and Trent were neighbors of ours in Tonopah, Nevada. We moved to Fallon first and then the Kroll's later moved there also. Mother and Wanda were good friends. My brother Michael and Trent were playmates in Tonopah. Mother and my three little children visited the family at their ranch in Fallon. My condolences to Frank's family.
