"Justice Delayed is Justice Denied"

Becky Ann Humphrey pled guilty in the 10th Judicial District Court Tuesday to a single count of accessory to a felony, a gross misdemeanor with the maximum of not more than 365 days in jail, and a fine of not more than $2,000.

Bruce Humphrey, husband to Becky, was arrested with her on July 30th and charged with felony harboring or concealing after the fact. According to staff at the New River Justice Court, the charges against Bruce Humphrey have been dismissed.

Humphrey stated that she provided food and assistance to her brother, Wes Lattin, knowing he had been charged with felony sexual assault, knowing he had charges pending, and knowing he had failed to appear on those charges.

Lattin was originally charged in 2003 for the sexual assault of a child under the age of 16, as well as three counts of open and gross lewdness. When that trial was under way, in August of 2005, Lattin disappeared, going on the lam for 15 years.

He was arrested on the Humphrey property last year and pled guilty to one count of sexual assault of a minor under the age of 16, and one count of failure to appear.

“Justice delayed is justice denied,” said Chelsea Stanford, deputy district attorney, “you denied the victims timely justice by harboring a fugitive.”

Public Defender, Jacob Sommer, said that Humphrey, “is standing before you to take responsibility for what she did, she understands the gravity and is here to make things right with the community and with her family.”

She apologized to her husband and her children for blindsiding them and for the emotional and financial burden, saying in court, “I’m sorry for the hardship my actions caused.” Judge Tom Stockard sentenced Humphrey to 364 days in Churchill County Jail with credit for one day time served, and she was remanded to the sheriff.
