So, I may be slightly biased about this being a favorite publication of mine because I was published in one of the editions. That being said, even if I wasn’t, these collections are wonderful, local, and inspiring. Brushfire Literature & Arts is an organization from the University of Nevada Reno that publishes submissions from artists, writers, and poets around the state.
This is one of my favorite publications for two reasons. First, it is all local creators, which makes it all the more special to read. Second, the publication allows audiences to see early work from talented people who may become big names in the future. How cool would it be to tell someone at a dinner party one day that you have an early work from a profound creator? While it’s hard to find print edition anywhere that isn’t the UNR campus, Brushfire Literature & Arts has every journal edition, plus podcasts featuring certain artists, on their website unrbrushfire.org. This publication is a great way to support young and local creators. Plus, I will give anyone full permission to say they own ‘an early Ugalde’ if they decide to try out an issue of the publication.
