4-H Sign-ups Look Different This Year

4-H Sign-ups Look Different This Year

Like everything this year, sign-ups for 4-H look different than they ever have. According to Karen Bogdanowicz, the community based instructor who has run the 4-H program in Churchill County for several years, sign-ups will be on a first come first serve basis and will happen online this year.

Members wishing to participate in the livestock clubs should be signed up by November 16th and Bogdanowicz recommends that date to the other clubs as well.

There are currently over thirty clubs available for students to join, from all the various livestock clubs to archery, quilting, sewing and the ever-popular horse club. Because of COVID restrictions, clubs will meet in a hybrid of live face-to-face, traditional meetings, mixed with some virtual meetings.

“Some clubs meet in person,” said Bogdanowicz, “some do a hybrid of both, but it really will be depending on where the county is with the community guidelines at the time.”

For the members involved in the livestock clubs, the annual Livestock Show is a huge community tradition and it typically held during the last full weekend of April.

4-H leaders are the backbone of the program, providing their time and talent to helping the youth of the community learn new skills. Anyone willing to volunteer to be a leader should contact Bogdanowicz at the 4-H cell phone number, 775-427-2480.
