NDOT will remove stop signs on US 95 at Sheckler and Wildes tomorrow

Nevada Department of Transportation announces lane closures on U.S. 95 at Sheckler Road in Fallon from approximately 6:00 a.m. unitl 7:00 p.m. tomorrow as the four-way stop is transitioned back to a two-way stop.

Stop signs will be removed from U.S. 95, but will remain on Sheckler/Wildes.

With safety as top priority, NDOT closely evaluated numerous potential intersection renovations at U.S. 95 and Sheckler Road in Fallon, ultimately determining an all-way stop as the best interim option to enhance traffic safety and mobility.

Previously, the intersection was a two-way stop with stop signs on Sheckler and Wildes roads and free-flowing traffic on U.S. 95. In late August, NDOT reconfigured the intersection to an all-way stop. Flashing beacons and additional “stop ahead” signage was installed to provide heightened visibility and raise driver attention to stop for the new stop signs. Unfortunately, some drivers did not comply with the new stop signs.

Following requests from the City of Fallon and Churchill County, NDOT completed further review and evaluation of the all-way stop at the intersection. After much consideration and coordination, NDOT will remove the stop signs on U.S. 95 on September 17, reestablishing it as a free-flow intersection for U.S. 95 travelers and a stop for Sheckler and Wildes roads only.

With traffic safety and mobility as top priority, NDOT, in partnership with the local jurisdictions, will continue to evaluate potential future intersection improvements as warranted by traffic needs, including an all-way stop.

Really? So to summarize: 1. NDOT "closely evaluated the options" and determined an all-way stop as the best option. 2. "Unfortunately, some drivers did not comply with the new stop signs." 3. So the City and County requested the Stop signs be taken down. I agree with the previous comment. The 4-way stop was a benefit. It was not perfect but was a step in the right direction. The left turn lane was an issue, but a temporary fix was installed and I assume a long-term fix was planned. It takes time for drivers to get used to a new traffic pattern. For many people this story was the first they'd even heard the intersection had become a 4-way stop. I'm sorry the City and County is making such a hasty decision. Just my opinion. Thank you.

I am so drives on Wildes, I found the 4 way stop to be a great benefit.

I think a large Roundabout is the best long term solution for that intersection.
