Viviane's Reviews - A great book for back to school

With the school year starting for the community again next week, (we hope) there are few books in my schooling that made me appreciate the written word, and improved my education overall.

The book that provided the biggest epiphany was Homer’s The Odyssey.

Those who came up in the ranks with me at Churchill County High School a few years ago will be rolling their eyes and begin to light their torches and grab their pitchforks to fight me on this...but let me explain.

The first time I had to trudge along the long, epic tale of a man who takes years to return home from the Trojan war, seemed ancient, unnecessary, and dull. However, as I began to appreciate the written word more -- and how powerful it can be -- the realization of how well written this ancient story is, was quite extraordinary.

This tale teaches how to be independent, self-determined, and trustworthy. Plus, you can never go wrong with mermaids and a giant cyclops for action.

This is a great book to bring back to school for an ancient version of a pep-talk for students, and those who need to find their inner strength.

We reached out to the writer/submitter and got this info back...hope it's helpful. PBM: Pharmacy Benefit Managers are pharmacies that are owned by insurance companies. (CVS is one.) They negotiate with drug makers to get reduced pricing for medications, but they historically have not passed along those savings to patients. https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/pharmacy-benefit-managers-staff-report.pdf MFN: Most Favored Nation pricing is a policy that means a country agrees to offer the same trade concessions (like tariffs or price reductions) to all member nations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). When applied to pharmaceuticals, it could disrupt global access, deter innovation, and obscure the deeper systemic issues in American health care. https://petrieflom.law.harvard.edu/2025/05/22/the-global-risks-of-americas-most-favored-nation-drug-pricing-policy/Comment publication date: 6/23/25, 7:47 AMComment source: L E T T E R TO THE EDITOR
