Updated Local Testing Data

Fallon, Nv. -- Churchill County has released the latest testing date for COVID-19 as of May 5th. There have been 205 tests administered with 180 negative results, 20 tests are pending, and there have been five positive cases. One of those five positives was reported as a COVID-related death from April 18th. The county reports that there is a lag in getting the pending numbers back in a timely manner from the various labs and entities involved. The pending tests continue to roll -- as new tests are being done, they roll into the pending count, while completed tests roll out and are added into positive/negative count.

These results include tests done by Banner Churchill Community Hospital, Narag Fallon Family Clinic, NAS Fallon, and the Fallon Paiute Shoshone Tribe. Any tests performed at the Fallon Renown clinic are sent to Reno, according to County Manager, Jim Barbee, and then reported to the Washoe County Health District. If there is a positive result from the Fallon Renown Clinic, that patient would be contacted and then the results would be reported to Churchill County.

A Washoe County resident was tested at the Tribal Health Clinic and had a positive result. According to Churchill County Manager, Jim Barbee, that positive test will be counted in the Washoe County numbers because the person lives Washoe County. Other than the Tribal Clinic that person had no other contact in Churchill County.

There has been a change to the NAS Fallon testing that was originally going through Banner Churchill Community Hospital, but tests are now being sent to the Navy Health Research Center in San Diego for analysis. Barbee said he is working with Rob Rule, the community planning liaison officer at NAS Fallon to get notification of those test results “so we can have those as a part of the cumulative tests and results we’re tracking."

The Fallon Post will continue updating the community as we get results in from the county.

Comment author: Patti Cole Comment text: Marie will be forever treasured in memories. The memories remain of a soft-spoken, seemingly unassuming but determined individual who absolutely knew what path she wanted to take in life, and followed it. Her instinctive reactions, which highlighted her steadfast level of love and caring for her family, friends and all living things found in nature, hold lessons for us all. An unexpected splash of her self-deprecating humor, coupled with uncanny timing, will always bring a smile. For me, Marie lives on in the sighting of a Black-crowned night heron in the tules, the bloom of a beautiful spring flower and, most poetically, in the struggle of wildlife photographers handling their very large camera lenses.
