Hospital Auxiliary donates $140,000 for Labor & Delivery Renovation

FALLON, Nevada — Banner Churchill Community Hospital has completed a top-to-bottom makeover of its Women and Infants Services department, made possible by a generous $140,000 donation from the Banner Churchill Community Hospital Auxiliary. The first renovation of the maternity unit since the hospital opened in 1996, mothers will now enjoy new glider rockers while their guests will have new sofa sleepers that convert from a couch to a bed for overnight visits. Other improvements include new flooring, countertops, privacy-enhancing window coverings, wall protection and soothing wall paint colors. “In addition to creating a more comfortable environment for our patients and their loved ones, the improvements will contribute to enhanced patient safety,” Chief Nursing Officer Sandy Goldstein said. “It’s so important to make sure that not only the mothers feel comfortable and safe throughout their experience, but their family and friends alongside them are comfortable as well. We are so appreciative of the Auxiliary’s generous donation and ongoing support to help us offer impressive spaces like this to the community.” It took the Hospital Auxiliary, a group of more than 80 volunteers, four years to raise the $140,000 for the project, primarily through sales at its “Stuf N’ Such” thrift store located at 99 S. Nevada street, and their gift shop located within the hospital. “Our primary mission is to raise funds for the hospital and provide help where we can around the community,” said Larry Whiteley, vice president of the Auxiliary. “We’re always happy with what the hospital does with the money. It supports not only our hospital but also our community.” “We are so pleased it is finished,” he added. Banner Churchill, which serves the northwest Nevada area, delivers nearly 400 babies annually. Its Women and Infants Services Department provides laboring patients the ability to conveniently remain in their room from delivery through discharge.
