Life Center two week closure - Meals on Wheels not affected

Life Center two week closure - Meals on Wheels not affected
Churchill County opts to reduce services at Pennington Life Center --  A message from the senior center states that Meals on Wheels will continue as usual.  "If you are a regular William N. Pennington Life Center dining room patron and need daily meals, please call the Center at 775-423-7096 to set up a meal pick up.  Meals will be available for pick up Monday through Friday from 11:00 am - 12:30 pm at the front of the Center under the portico.  Please call us to advise if you would like to pick up daily meals prior to Friday, March 13th at 4:30 pm. If you are unable to drive and need meals deliver, contact us to be placed on  the Meals on Wheels program." Churchill County officials made the decision today to reduce or modify services at its William N. Pennington Life Center, effective immediately. This decision was made in an abundance of caution and to protect the county’s vulnerable population of senior citizens vis-à-vis COVID-19. Effective immediately at the Life Center and until further notice:
  • The lobby area, front desk and dining room are closed. For those who come to the dining room for their mid-day meal, a drive-through meal service will be set up under the portico at the front entrance and packaged meals will be handed out starting on March 13 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • All recreational classes and activities are cancelled.
  • Meals On Wheels home meal delivery will not be affected at this time.
  • The beauty salon, as a private business, remains open at this time.
  • Those with questions are encouraged to contact the Life Center at (775)423-7096 as phones will be staffed.
“Churchill County wants to be out in front of the COVID-19 issue. Protecting a vulnerable population is top-most in our minds and this concern led to our decision to reduce activities at the Life Center,” said Jim Barbee, county manager. We reached out to the writer/submitter and got this info back...hope it's helpful. PBM: Pharmacy Benefit Managers are pharmacies that are owned by insurance companies. (CVS is one.) They negotiate with drug makers to get reduced pricing for medications, but they historically have not passed along those savings to patients. https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/pharmacy-benefit-managers-staff-report.pdf MFN: Most Favored Nation pricing is a policy that means a country agrees to offer the same trade concessions (like tariffs or price reductions) to all member nations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). When applied to pharmaceuticals, it could disrupt global access, deter innovation, and obscure the deeper systemic issues in American health care. https://petrieflom.law.harvard.edu/2025/05/22/the-global-risks-of-americas-most-favored-nation-drug-pricing-policy/Comment publication date: 6/23/25, 7:47 AMComment source: L E T T E R TO THE EDITOR
