Author event at the Library -- Lynn Lloyd

Author event at the Library -- Lynn Lloyd
by Rachel Dahl -- Two pages into Lynn Lloyd’s “Seven Sets of Horseshoes: An American Journey” and I’m already weeping. This is why I do not read horse stories, nor do I watch horse movies. They’re sad. And beautiful. And they make you think of life and love and all the things that really matter. Lynn lives in Red Rock, just north of Reno and we have her sister Carol here in Fallon as our very own librarian. Only a few know how lucky we are to be the beneficiaries of the sisters Lloyd. Lynn will be at the Library Tuesday night, March 10th at 6:00 p.m. for a conversation about her book, moderated by the brilliant and entertaining conversationalist, Ron Belbin. In 1973, when she was 17 years old, Lynn set out horseback on a journey across the country, leaving her home in Pennsylvania with two cans of fruit, a dog named Puddles, and her life’s savings tucked in the bottom of a saddlebag. This book tells the story of her grand adventure, of the people she met along the way and the lessons she learned about the world, about life, and about herself. In our modern-day times of toilet-paper shortages and 17-year-olds whose greatest ambition is the perfect selfie, Lynn’s story is a reminder of what is real – ambition, determination, and how a young girl made her dreams come true. Stop by the library Tuesday evening to meet Lynn and her sister Carol and listen to the engaging conversation about Lynn’s book and see how lucky we are in Fallon to have access to such amazing people. Consider bringing the teenagers in your life for a view into a brave way of looking at the world. This event cannot be missed. Comment author: Claude EzzellComment text: Paul was one of the most manifest men I have ever met. He was a good friends with my Dad and always had an entertaining story for the occasion. One of my most favorite stories Paul told dated back to the late 60s or early 70s and it revolved around him killing a deer way out in the mountains. Naturally the deer ran down into a deep canyon and died. Knowing that it would take him forever to haul it out he devised an awesome plan. After preparing the deer he drove back to NAS Fallon and rustled up a SAR crew and they flew out and picked up the deer. Of course it was labeled as a training flight but what the hell in those days you could do that sort of thing. Rest in Peace my friend until we meet again!!Comment publication date: 4/11/24, 1:15 PMComment source: Obituary - LCDR Paul N PflimlinComment author: THughesComment text: So sad to hear.
