Rotary drives donations for Homebound Seniors

Rotary drives donations for Homebound Seniors
by Rachel Dahl There are 200 Homebound Seniors in our community who receive services (meals on wheels) through the William Pennington Life Center. For the past seven years, Fallon Rotary has held an event each year during their Christmas party to gather items to donate to these homebound seniors. This year was a huge success with Rotary gathering donations at Kent’s Supply Center through the month of November. “It is an awesome thing they are doing,” said Buster Pearce, program services director for the Life Center. “It is just amazing what personal care items mean to them. They can’t afford things like that. There are always tears, it will tear your heartstrings.” Pearce organizes his staff and several Rotary volunteers to make the deliveries, using the senior center vans. “We give everyone a sheets with names and addresses and out we go. All 200 seniors will get something.” He said that CC Communications donates a blanket for each person and New Frontier donates as well. Everyone also receives a bag of personal items and a bag of non-perishable food. Many other groups that want to remain anonymous, along with members of the community contribute as well to make up gift baskets to fulfill Pearce’s “wants and needs” list. “This is just a wonderful thing that we can do for our seniors,” said Pearce.     Support local, independent news – contribute to The Fallon Post, your non-profit (501c3) online news source for all things Fallon. We reached out to the writer/submitter and got this info back...hope it's helpful. PBM: Pharmacy Benefit Managers are pharmacies that are owned by insurance companies. (CVS is one.) They negotiate with drug makers to get reduced pricing for medications, but they historically have not passed along those savings to patients. https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/pharmacy-benefit-managers-staff-report.pdf MFN: Most Favored Nation pricing is a policy that means a country agrees to offer the same trade concessions (like tariffs or price reductions) to all member nations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). When applied to pharmaceuticals, it could disrupt global access, deter innovation, and obscure the deeper systemic issues in American health care. https://petrieflom.law.harvard.edu/2025/05/22/the-global-risks-of-americas-most-favored-nation-drug-pricing-policy/Comment publication date: 6/23/25, 7:47 AMComment source: L E T T E R TO THE EDITOR
