Our beautiful mother, Jacquelyn Royce Hettinger, died September 15, 2026, after a long battle with dementia. We will miss her so very much but are grateful she will no longer be suffering. Jacquie was born September 25, 1936, in Fallon to Roy and Hazel Williams. She grew up at the Eastgate Ranch, where her father ran cattle for Pete Cushman. She learned many homemaking skills alongside her mother, and in 1952, at 16, her skills were rewarded with a trip to Chicago for 4-H for her canning project. During the years at Eastgate, Mom attended a one-room schoolhouse at Alpine, later attending CCHS, where she was a cheerleader and rodeo queen, graduating in 1954. In the fall of that year, she married Robert (Bob) Hettinger. Then, on February 3, 1958, they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. Bob and Jacquie spent their early years working construction for DRUM across Nevada, then settling in Elko and opening a small eatery and later the Round-Up Café. On July 1958, they were blessed with their first child, Royce Arlene, followed by Renee in January of 1961. Then, around 1963, they moved to Ely and opened the B and J Restaurant. In 1963, Travis Robert joined the family, followed by Denise in 1965. Chris R. and Andre Paul completed the family in 1970.
After returning to Fallon in 1972, Mom continued her homemaking skills, as well as many side jobs to help supplement the family income. She worked for the Department of Agriculture, conducting surveys of ranches across Nevada. She sold Avon and worked in the offices of Fallon Gymnastics, Lynn Bishop Chiropractic, and CCHS High School. The family took on an early-morning paper route, which we all took part in, and Mom and Dad continued for many years after we had all left home. Jacquie was very active in the LDS Church, holding many callings. She was active in politics and many community organizations.
Mom and Dad loved to travel, go to the movies, and attend sporting events.
Jacquelyn is preceded in death by her husband, Bob; her parents, Roy and Hazel Williams; sister Anitta; and baby boy Michael. She is survived by her children, Royce Hettinger; Renee (Blake) Nitta of Hawaii; Travis Hettinger (Tina) of Fernley; Denise (Jeff) Flanery of Sparks; Chris (Page) of Arlington, Washington; and Andre (Rose) of Kent, Washington; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
We will miss our ROCK and will forever strive to follow her example of compassion and service.
Arrangements are under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Home. Saturday, September 26, at the LDS Church, 750 Richards Way, Fallon, Nevada: Viewing at 10 a.m., with a service to follow at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
