The Battle Mountain High School cross country team saw action for the first time this fall, running at the Fernley 4K last Friday.
Sophomore Libby Preece led the way for the Longhorn girls, finishing sixth in a time of 20 minutes, 4 seconds. Megan Augilar placed 21st, stopping the clock at 25:51 and Claie Lunderman was 22nd at 45:10.
Churchill County’s Issabelle Walter-Chicas-Garibay (17:22) and Aubrey Strickland (17:29) were first and second, respectfully. The Greenwave were the only school with enough runners for a team score.
Sophomore Kaleb Hart was the only Battle Mountain boys runner, placing 46th in a time of 21:44.
Fernley senior Cael Wilson won the race at 14:22, followed by Churchill County’s Cayson Lacow (14:39).
Battle Mountain travels to Tahoe City, Calif., on Friday for the North Tahoe Madman Mills Invitational.
