Junior and Ileigh Simons held a soft opening Sept. 5 for The Bookish Meeple, Fallon’s new mobile book and board game store, in the Rush & Rhythm parking lot.
The store’s slogan is “Find your next adventure in the pages or on the table.” A meeple is a small, person-shaped game piece, typically made of wood or plastic, that represents a player or worker in modern board games.
The couple said they created the business to share their love of books and board games with the community.
Ileigh is a job coach at EmployNV, and Junior works for Churchill County Parks and Recreation through the SumFun and C.A.R.E. after-school programs. Ileigh was born in Fallon but left for college before becoming a high school teacher. She said she always knew she would return to Fallon.
The couple said millennials are rediscovering traditional board games. They see The Bookish Meeple as a way to help customers find a game for family night or a book that offers a new adventure.
The Bookish Meeple will be at the Oats Park Art Center in October. Information about available books and games can be found on the business’s Facebook page.
