The Fallon Golf Course generated $721,650 in revenue in 2025 and invested about $178,000 in course and facility improvements, Churchill County Commissioners heard Sept. 3.
The county-owned course has also experienced overall growth in rounds played since 2018 while supporting school golf programs, community events, and fundraisers. At the Sept. 3 Churchill County Board of Commissioners meeting, Marty Davis presented an update on the Fallon Golf Course.
Davis said Alan Kalt, president of the Fallon Golf Course Inc. board of directors, prepared the presentation but was unable to attend.
Golf course revenue has generally increased, reaching about $640,000 in 2023, $651,000 in 2024, and $721,650 in 2025. Through July 2026, the course generated slightly more than $500,000.
Davis said the course is a nonprofit and is not intended to generate large profits but should avoid sustained losses. The course recorded a net gain of $83,000 in 2021 and $49,000 in 2022 before posting a $24,700 loss in 2024. It finished 2025 with a $12,741 gain but had a net gain of just $375 through July 2026.
Davis also reported on the number of rounds played annually. The course recorded just over 11,000 rounds in 2018, about 10,500 in 2019, nearly 11,000 in 2020, about 13,000 in 2021, more than 14,000 in 2022, and 15,500 in 2023. Rounds dipped slightly to 14,300 in 2024 before bouncing back to more than 16,000 in 2025.
The golf course receives $50,000 annually from Churchill County for capital improvements, while the City of Fallon contributes $25,000 each year toward operations.
Facility improvements cost $96,119, including more than $42,000 for a bathroom remodel, more than $13,000 for kitchen and banquet refrigeration equipment, nearly $32,000 for remodeling the caretaker apartment, and $8,300 for an HVAC upgrade.
Course improvements totaled just under $82,000, including $9,382 for driving range netting and installation, nearly $7,000 for irrigation upgrades, $62,320 for bridge repairs and improvements, and $3,350 for improvements to the maintenance shed. Davis said the investments were paid for with golf course profits and funding provided by the City of Fallon.
Churchill County owns the golf course, which is operated by Fallon Golf Course Inc. A board of directors oversees the course. The board includes county representatives Joe Sanford and Gary Fowkes; City of Fallon representative Paul Harmon; and directors Alan Kalt and David Halloran.
The golf course operates with limited year-round staffing, with four full-time equivalent positions regularly staffed throughout the year. During the primary golf season, which generally runs from March through October, staffing increases to as many as 14 full-time equivalents.
Staff members maintain the greens, tees, fairways, irrigation and sprinkler systems, and fertilizer and pesticide programs. Operations also include equipment replacement and maintenance involving mowers, tractors, and carts, along with bridge work, kitchen and refrigeration equipment, and clubhouse maintenance and repairs.
The Fallon Golf Course supports men’s and women’s leagues and high school golf programs. Since 2021, the course has hosted 20 fundraisers supporting scholarships, veterans, and other community causes. The course has also offered scholarships to local high school seniors since 2022 and provides banquet facilities for special events.
Following the presentation, Commissioner Matt Hyde asked whether the revenue figures included money generated through the clubhouse and bar. Davis confirmed that the figures reflected overall revenue. No other questions or concerns were raised, and Commissioners thanked Davis for the presentation.
