First I want to thank TCU for making me look so bad, as I picked you last week over North Carolina. I guess there was the Dublin curse on the Horned Frogs. I don’t know any other explanation. UNLV/Memphis was just as good as I thought. When UNLV lost its all-league center due to injury, it was all but over.
Let’s try again this week.
Miami (-24) at Stanford (Friday): Last week Capt. Andrew Luck had to worry about his troops, as outsiders from Hawaii visited. This week there is a Hurricane warning out, as Miami visits from the East Coast. These Hurricanes mean business. The U is finally back and want to get back to the national championship. Could be a long night in Palo Alto. Miami 48, Stanford 10.
LSU (-11) vs. Clemson: This is probably the most intriguing game of the four-day weekend. Clemson coach Dabo Sweeney had Clemson atop the country for years. However, as times have changed in college football, Clemson and Dabo have stayed the course. On the other hand, we thought Lane Kiffin was actually a good guy for a couple minutes, until he skipped town on Ole Miss. Now, Lane is taking NFL guys that could not make a team. Parents, be careful who else Lane steals from you. Week 1 shocker. Clemson 28, LSU 24.
Ole Miss (-6) vs. Louisville (Sunday): Life begins once again at Ole Miss and could the Rebels have an outside chance at getting back to the playoffs? This is still a good team with one of the best quarterbacks in the nation. They have something to prove since Lane left for Baton Rouge. Ole Miss 33, Louisville 21.

Colorado (+7) at Georgia Tech (Thursday): I had been considering this since I first saw it on the schedule, and then when I saw the line go to up 7 on my Circa app, here I am. Georgia Tech quarterback Haynes King graduated and he’s replaced by Alberto Mendoza, the brother of Raiders’ first-round pick Fernando. But what intrigues me is Colorado offensive coordinator Brennan Marion, who was the real reason for UNLV’s resurgence the last few years and did the same for Sacramento State last year. Now he’s here to give Coach Prime something he hasn’t had – a good running game. I’m a believer in Marion and his Go-Go offense, and I think it’s going to have the Yellow Jackets on their heels all night.
UCLA (-1 ½) at Cal: I bet against UCLA early and often last year and won several bets, but I’m buying them this time around. New coach Bob Chesney succeeded Curt Cignetti at James Madison and took them to the playoffs last year and he brought some assistant coaches and a crew of players from JMU.
Hawaii (+3) over UNLV: This is being hyped in Mountain West circles as an elimination game for the CFP, since both teams lost their opener last week and no way a team with two losses is getting in the playoffs. I think this would have been an elimination game even if both would have won last week, but I digress. I’m not nearly as high on UNLV as the rest of the world seems to be, and Hawaii looked more impressive to me in its loss to Stanford than UNLV did against Memphis. I think the wrong team is favored, and on top of that, all four of Hawaii’s captains played at Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas, so this game is going to mean a lot to those guys.
