Children and families from congregations in the Fallon South Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints recently collected 583 books to donate to Spread the Word Nevada – Northern.
The service project was organized through JustServe, with Primary children and their families helping gather books and decorate collection boxes for the effort.
Mark Coumbs said he and his wife recently delivered the books to Spread the Word Nevada, where staff members expressed appreciation for the donation and asked about the Fallon-area congregations that participated.
During the delivery, Coumbs said a mother and her two children were in the office, and the children immediately began looking through the books.
“It was amazing to watch,” he said.
Spread the Word Nevada distributes books to children and families throughout the region, including through monthly distributions to Title I schools.
Coumbs said the organization also expressed interest in partnering with local congregations on future book drives.
The 583 donated books represented contributions from congregations throughout the Fallon South Stake and were collected as part of an effort to give local children an opportunity to participate in service while supporting literacy for other Nevada families.
