Construction is underway at Laura Mills Park on an $815,798.81 renovation project that will replace nearly three-quarters of a mile of walking paths, install new playground equipment and upgrade the park's irrigation system. Construction is expected to be completed in fall 2026.
The Fallon City Council recently approved a contract with Ernst Earthworks to replace the park's aging asphalt walking paths with wider, fiber-reinforced concrete paths.
"Our hope is that we get the walking paths, the playground, seed in the ground, and the irrigation system before Oct. 1," Public Works Director Brian Byrd said.
According to Byrd, "The removal of the existing asphalt will allow for the installation of wider paths, proper slopes, and alleviating low areas."
In addition to the new ADA-accessible walking paths, the project includes new playground equipment with tables and benches, a new grass area, and an upgraded irrigation system.
Some areas of the park will be temporarily closed during construction. The city is asking visitors to use caution around construction zones and thanks the community for its patience as improvements continue.
