Little Free Libraries Continue to Grow Across Fallon

Little Free Libraries continue to grow across Fallon, with the number of registered neighborhood book-sharing boxes doubling since 2022.

The nonprofit Little Free Library encourages communities to build connections and promote literacy through volunteer-maintained book exchange boxes. Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the libraries operate on a simple principle: take a book, leave a book.

When The Fallon Post last highlighted the program in 2022, the community had approximately five Little Free Library locations. Today, the official Little Free Library app lists 10 registered libraries throughout Fallon.

Current registered locations include: Famous Amos Books, 6344 Powerline Road; Sandie Fisk Library, 4800 Alcorn Road; The Karrys Library, 818 McLean Road; Library on Potpourri; Bee Kind Library, 1373 Wade Lane; Mady Bonner Library, 1833 Rice Road; The Little Yellow House, 1023 Maple Way; Little Free Library on Birch, 2121 Birch Lane; Holy Trinity Episcopal Church Library, 507 Churchill St.; and Noreen Swenson Library, 601 Discovery Drive.

Fallon's Little Free Library story dates to March 2015, when the community's first library was installed at the Paiute-Shoshone Administration Complex. The project was completed by University of Nevada, Reno students during spring break in partnership with UNR Cooperative Extension, the Churchill County Museum, and the Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe.

Since then, residents, churches, and neighborhoods have continued adding libraries, creating more opportunities for free access to books across the community.
