Greenwave athletes begin fall practices
Churchill County High School athletes have begun preparing for the 2026 fall sports season as football, volleyball, boys and girls soccer, girls golf, boys and girls tennis, cross country and cheer teams return to practice ahead of their season openers later this month.
Under Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association rules, athletes must complete the required number of preseason practices before they are eligible to compete. Football has additional preseason practice requirements before players may participate in games.
NIAA sanctions varsity lacrosse
Beginning with the 2026-27 school year, boys and girls lacrosse will become an officially sanctioned varsity sport under the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association. Schools that sponsor lacrosse teams will be eligible to compete for regional and state championships under NIAA rules.
Churchill County High School Athletic Director Brian Mello confirmed the Greenwave will not field boys or girls lacrosse teams during the spring 2027 season.
Oasis Academy has fielded boys and girls lacrosse teams in recent years, providing local student-athletes an opportunity to compete in the sport.
