The Churchill County Cooperative Extension Department supports local 4-H programs, livestock education, pesticide workshops, gardening classes and other community educational events through its partnership with University of Nevada, Reno Extension.
During the February budget meeting, Extension Coordinator Kristen Burr requested a budget of $169,904. The request includes funding for a full-time 4-H youth development position, the county’s share of a part-time administrative assistant position and $5,000 for a state livestock education specialist.
Burr also requested funding for hourly staff to bring in guest speakers and potentially an AmeriCorps volunteer to expand local programming.
Of the total request, $135,157 is allocated for salaries and benefits, while $34,747 would cover operating expenses, including travel, office costs, event supplies, educational materials, livestock clinics, pesticide workshops and gardening classes.
Commissioners had no questions, and no changes to the request were proposed.
