Chris Spross announced his resignation during the May 20 county commission meeting, saying his last day with Churchill County will be June 12, 2026.
Spross said the decision came after “considerable thought,” and described serving the county as “one of the greatest professional honors” of his career. During his remarks, he reflected on his time with the county and thanked commissioners, county employees, and community partners for their support and dedication.
“I’m proud of the work that has been accomplished, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve our employees, residents, and community partners,” Spross said. “I want to thank the board for the trust that was placed in me. And I especially want to recognize the county staff for their professionalism, dedication, and commitment to public service.”
Spross noted that much of the work done by county employees often goes unnoticed by the public, but said their efforts are essential to keeping county operations running every day.
He also said he plans to assist with the transition process before his departure.
“This decision was not made lightly, and I remain committed to ensuring a smooth transition and will do everything I can to support the organization during this process,” Spross said. “I’m thankful for the opportunity to serve this community. It truly has been a pleasure.”
Commissioners responded to the announcement by thanking Spross for his years of service to the county. Commissioner Myles Getto said he had worked alongside Spross for the past six years, dating back to his time on the planning commission.
“You’ve served this county in tremendous ways, and you’ll be dearly missed,” Getto said.
